Some of you will have seen my previous post introducing the fact I shall be testing some Oxo Products for them, these products are designed for people like me, people who suffer with joint conditions.
One thing I have not been able to do for many years is Mash anything, well not without constantly taking breaks as my hands seize. So when I received the Pro Potato Masher I wondered would this finally give me the ability to make Mash Potato again.
This silicone, non-scratch potato masher lets you make smooth potatoes with ease. A broad, soft horizontal handle lets you press straight down while it cushions your grip and absorbs pressure. A fine-grid mashing plate yields smooth mashed potatoes with no lumps, while the silicone is safe for your non-stick cookware. The silicone wings scrape every last bit from the sides of the pan. This tool is ideal for mashing root vegetables, or for making homemade baby food.
I am in love, don’t judge, you try not being able to cook a meal for the past few years, this Potato Masher is perfect for me, I basically no longer have to try to grip a small narrow handle and pound away, this design is fab, I can stand with all my weight above the masher as it’s horizontal handle, it’s also wide enough for me to use both my hands, so even if my body is having a very tired day I can use all my weight, the grip handle means that I don’t slip and as it is thicker than a normal handle I don’t have to over strain my hands.
I love the fact that the whole masher is coated in Silicone too, firstly it doesn’t damage my pan like other utensils, I have teflon coated saucepans that can easily get damaged, also due to the silicone the food left on the masher washes off easily, the worst thing about Mashers is digging the remaining food from the plate, not a problem any more.
It made my Mash perfect too, my husband our usual Potato Masher, couldn’t believe that I had managed to Mash Potatoes, he is pleased as one less job for him, it makes the most incredible Egg Mayo too as it mashes the egg to a lovely fine texture.
My hubby had a go with the Masher, as someone without joint issues and agreed he liked the silicone, he found the mashing action a little awkward but I think that’s more the fact he is so used the usual type utensil, he agreed though the plate holes are perfect for mashing with no lumps, so he shall be continuing to use.
- Sturdy, stainless steel Tongs with Silicone Heads

The chunky-ness of the handles of these Tongs are excellent, when you have joint issues, griping something like tongs can be quite difficult on the hands, I can’t tell you how many times a Burger has slipped from my grip and spat fat up in my face, or dropped a Sausage on the floor, these Tongs with thumb rests, silicone grips and general thickness are going to make that a thing of the past.
Here they are side by side, with another expensive pair of Tongs I have had this past year, you can see the difference in size in particular as well the head size being that much larger for better control.
These feel like good quality in your hands, I haven’t no word of a lie dropped anything with them, I love the Silicone Heads for use with my pans etc, also they are just that much easier to keep clean.
My only downfall if I had any about either of these products is the colours, I am one for brights in my kitchen, but obviously this is not a negative just a little quip of mine, that and the Potato Masher shape does mean it doesn’t fit in a Utensil holder on the side but has to go in a drawer, but certainly this is not a deal breaker.
Disclosure – I was sent these 2 Good Grips Products from Oxo to review, I was not told what to write and my opinions are 100% my own. I have not received any other form of payment for this post.
