Fisher Price Discover and Grow Kick and Play Piano Gym Review

Written by InnocentCharmer. Posted in 2013

Both Grayson and Addison had a Fisher Price Rainforest Playmat, we loved it, the colours were bright and engaging and we are big animal fans in our house, but we donated it to a charity after Addy outgrew it as our flat was so tiny.

When Deacon was born I had decided that I would like a Fisher Price Playmat and was hoping my parents would buy one as a gift, but they were beaten as Fisher Price kindly offered me the new Discover and Grow Kick and Play Piano Gym to review.

When it arrived I was over the moon that it was a play gym that grows with the child, so many only last those first 6/8 months but this has a piano that flips over to sitting position that even Addison now at just over 2 constantly wants to play with, which is even older than the 18 months Fisher Price state.

The Play Gym took only 5 minutes to unpack and build which is great as in this house with 3 under 5 speed is a need. With 3 play modes it is great for Deacon to develop in all different areas.

The 1st is laying on his back whilst he kicks the piano and stares at the animals dancing above on the arch. It then moves onto a tummy time mat with the arch coming down for them to engage with whilst kicking the piano with their feet and lastly the piano flips up so child can sit under and play music.

1st Impressions

I love the colours and animals, I like that Fisher-Price has made the colours more muted than their Rainforest tones in the past and the animals are softer and more rounded. Addison loves them as does Deacon and she tells him which animal is which, another great addition to the mat as it promotes learning.

The mat is lightly padded but enough for a little baby to lay on, the only thing I would have liked was a little head pillow as the previous Rainforest Mat used to have.

The Piano works very well, Deacon can kick it with ease and very kindly for parents comes with a volume control with 2 settings and 4 different tunes. There are 4 very cute animals that hang on the arch, they are all detachable which is great as they can be taken off and used whilst out and about, one toy even has a teether built-in for the months ahead.

Developmentally It’s Fab

Development and how toys play a part in that are massive in this house, we are always looking for toys that promote simple learning skills.

The piano being kicked is great for learning cause and effect, as is the ball on the elephant that once hit spins round. As I said before the animals have been a great learning tool for Addy and she repeats them over and over to Deacon so I am sure his first word is likely to be “elephant” or “giraffe”

The Animals above also help with hand and eye co-ordination , strengthening motor skills and awareness.

Deacon Showing His Skills

All in all for a RRP of £44 I think this mat is great value for money, it will last a lot longer than most play mats and is a great learning tool, I would certainly recommend it to a friend, I think it is the mat my sister will choose for her baby daughter once she arrives.

Disclosure – I was sent the Fisher Price Play Gym for review, all opinions and comments are 100 % true, honest and our own.
