Britax Max-Fix Carseat Review – Toddler Use

You may remember I mentioned Deacon very luckily got sent a Britax Max-Fix Carseat to put to the test, although I shall be doing a full review of his use of the Car seat, I thought I would share how we have loved being able to use it for Addison and even occasionally Grayson too over the Summer holidays.

Britax Max-Fix Carseat

The Britax Max-Fix is a revolution in the UK, Max-Fix provides comfort and safety for your baby from birth to 18kg and is easy to install using the ISOFIX system. The seat is also lighter than most, and thanks to ISOFIX is Britax’s safest group 0+/1 rearward facing seat.

Now trust me I would have been eternally grateful if Britax had made this seat 3 years ago, as rearward facing carseats in this country are only just becoming available. This seat comes over from great designs in the USA where they are pretty much standard.

Grayson being disabled had to remain rearward as he could not sit unaided, this was the only way he could safely travel as like newborn babies, but 3 years ago fab seats like the Max-Fix did not exist, I would have been able to keep Grayson Rearward till when he finally learnt to sit at 2 1/2 yrs old.

I wish this seat had also been around when Addy was a baby, she was also kept rearward till over 11 months even though she capably sat unaided at 4 months, it is better for babies whole body but in particuar their necks.

Now for the Specs –

Height adjustable 5-point safety harness
Harness retainers make it easy to place your child in and out of the seat
Buckle stays in forward position to make it easy to place your child in the seat
Chest pads for your child’s comfort
Belly pad for your child’s comfort
Quick-remove cover without interfering with the harness
Softly padded cover can be removed for washing
Smaller seat offers more leg room ideal for small cars
Newborn insert provides extra comfort and support for your baby

So as I said this Summer Addison has been using the seat alot, why ? Well it is so simple, my sister and mum have taken Addison for some trips out this Summer and as every parents knows a standard car seat can bve a mission to fit in and out of other peopls cars, the Britax Max-Fix being Isofix makes it a breeze, I can honestly do it in 2 minutes, you just click onto the anchor points, push the bar against the seat and adjust the leg to lock into place on the floor. This is my 1st Isofix carseat and I was not convinced at how safe it could honestly be, but I was AMAZED – it does not budge, in fact I pushed it will all my (large) amount of weight and it sat in the same place, this took away all my fears.

I was concerned at how Addison would fit in the seat, not the actual seat as that is a great size, with ample super soft padding, she loves it better than her own and I can see why it is very comfy on the bottom, it’s easy to adjust the seatbelt height as they just slide up and down in a case at the rear of the seat and the headrest moves with them (awesome no fiddly pushing seatbelts through holes), but the actual leg room panicked me.

But as you can see from the pics, even with her dusty wellies on (she had been to the farm) there is plenty of room, sometimes she would sit with her legs up the seat other times she would sit lotus style with them crossed (which looked super cute). She liked the fact she sat the same way as Deacon and due to the base on the seat she can easily nose out the window (most important thing for her).

She slept in it very well too, with easy recline options it meant I could lay her down comfortably, although as she was rearward unlike forward facing her head never actually fell forward.

I was surpised to see how easily the seat fits in my sister VW Golf, we have a VW Touran 7 seater so I knew it would fit in there, but my sister who is tall and has her seat far back did not need to move her seat to equip the carseat which is great.

My only small negative about the seat is the weight of trying to carry it from car to car for a weakling like me, it is not really much heavier than any other carseat I just find all the good ones to be a tad on the heavy side.

All in all it’s an amazing seat that will last from Birth right through to over 3 years of age, it fits securely and your baby is safe and comfy – I myself can’t ask for anything more in a product than what Britax have offered.

Do come back and find out how tiny Deacon also gets on.

Disclosure – We were sent the Max-fix Car Seat FOC from Britax for purpose of review, all opinions are 100% our own.

The rear facing car seats are really good aren’t they? I had never thought about getting one until recently, speaking to you, Britax and the law changing. It was automatic when they got to 9months plus or over a certain weight to change them to front facing. Now I’m re-thinking this with Aria. x

We are happy with our max Fix however, we used an infant car set 0 size because although Britax says it’s from birth, our LO head was absolutely not supported. At 4 months we tried it but her head would still go to the sides or forward because even in the most reclined position it is still not enough for such a young child. Needless to say this is a MAJOR inconvenience. I would not recommend this car seat for babies younger than 6, maybe even older.
