Corners Of My Home // Dark, Vintage Bedroom

CORNERSOFMYHOME

You may remember I shared Corners of my Brothers home a while ago and at the time mentioned how we both have such a passion for Interior design, in particular vintage finds.

Just after Christmas he excitedly sent me some pictures asking what I thought ? He repainted his bedroom and had a reshuffle and declutter.

I feel in love! Gorgeous dark walls, plenty of vintage finds, pictures and some new industrial pieces.

It is the perfect amount of Industrial/Vintage Chic, very similar to how I want our own bedroom to look but with some pink tones.

I of course knew I had to share it with you all, and he agreed saying he would love to know what people thought.

So here we go, let us both know your thoughts…

My style is eclectic for certain, Hollywood regency with a dash of Edwardian roughed up by colonial and a touch of Industrial.

My brother had his room Grey for a while now, like myself his go to classic colour, but the shade was just not right, so he researched and found Railings by Farrow and Ball (darker wall above). He knew he could not paint the whole room that colour as it would make it much smaller, so he teamed with Manor House Grey on the other walls, also from Farrow and Ball.

I asked how the F&B paint had gone on as I never personally had spent the money, his reply..

Great paint, yes more expensive, but goes on better, didn’t use as much, so in the end cheaper and pretty much odourless, water based so also dries quicker.

I really want to give it a try now!

I love this part of the room, my brother loves his nieces and nephews and each of them feature here in Black and White, it shows his relationships so well with each of them. My favourite has to be the top picture from when Addison was little.

It also it one of Kieron’s favourite areas in the room, well in fact the full black wall is as he feels…

It describes me, a mix of my favourite things, great literature, greenery, art and personal pictures of my treasured family.

I asked if he had a favourite item in the room, I can’t honestly pick mine, nor could he,..

I love “The Big Shot” mirror resting on the mantle(above pic), it was a bootfair find but feels so one-off, shows humour but still crisp and interesting!

I adore the war-time letter, it’s a piece of British heritage and comes with a heartbreaking story that the solider stopped receiving letters as his wife had sadly passed away when he was on duty.

And for a newer touch it has to be the palm tree hanging, it’s so dramatic but not domineering.

Which I have to say I think is a fantastic addition, it makes such a focal of the bed area. Along with the Industrial bedside cabinet (which I want to steal) they both come from a favourite shop of mine Rockett St.George.

For me the room does the most important thing that I think any Interior should do, it reflects my Brother. There is no point decorating a home that isn’t you, people will know and ultimately it maybe be beautiful but this is your home, you need to feel at peace there.

I can not wait to go and see the room in person, but for now I am so thankful he has allowed me to share it with you all, do let me know if he inspires you with any of your projects.

Final thought from my brother..

If I see something I love I buy it, and hope it turns out for the best

Oh this is soooo lovely! I wish I was brave enough to go so dark – it looks so beautiful! x #homeetc

  • Ohmygod. That letter??!!! TOO sad. Made me feel a bit weepy!!! Poor man 🙁 But I LOVE it all!!! Especially the colour!!! We’ve gone dark this weekend, as you know. We used to have Manor House Grey — before I painted it paler in October — and loved it. But this time have gone for DownPipe. I love Farrow and Ball and agree with him totally — it’s such highly pigmented paint — the finish is fabulous!! Thanks for sharing xx #HomeEtc

I love it, some people aren’t brave enough to go for a dark colour in their house but this shows it works perfectly

  • Wow, there is so much to look at in his room! I’m such a nosey person, I love looking at photos and pictures. The colour works really well, being brave with the bold colour has paid off. He’s got a real eye for interiors like you! xx
