My parents were strong believers in that children should not drink any fizzy drinks, water was their main choice for us and as a treat it was always Robinsons Cordial/Squash.
Fast forward 30 years and I still really don’t like Fizzy drinks and I have set the same rule for my children, to be honest my kids love water so it is not really a problem.
But what is a problem in our house with Mama and Kiddies alike is staying hydrated. We just don’t drink enough and come the winter months we are worse as without heat our thirst is not as strong.
So I am always doing things to make sure the kids drink, drink charts, new cups, fancy straws and making “Flash Drinks” as Addison calls them.
To be honest they are quite simple, but they really work, for example the one below she has drunk 3 glasses of at Dinner tonight and over 80% of the drink is water.
Robinsons are a great as with 11 flavour choices (Lemon, Orange, Apple & Blackcurrant, Summer Fruits, Orange & Mango, Orange & Pineapple, Lemon & Mango, Orange & Raspberry, Pinapple, Mango & Passion Fruit and Apple Blackcurrant & Cherry) you can always think of another fun recipe.
Flash Drink Recipe (feels daft saying a recipe but here you go)
- 10% Robinsons Apple & Blackcurrant Squash
- Dash of Grape Juice
- Frozen Grapes (as ice and then to munch on after)
- Fancy umbrellas and straws (optional)
We always keep grapes in the freezer as they are a great snack and act as Ice, just add them to the glass, add Robinsons, grape juice (up to you how much) and water.
This is also really nice with warm water, but my kids like cold drinks better. I personally love a warm cordial on a Winters Evening and the frozen grapes set it off fab.
How about you ? How do you make sure your kids drink enough water ??
Disclosure – We were provided Robinsons Squash, recipe is our own.
