There is nothing I love more than a Picnic, well that’s a lie only thing more is a picnic made for me or a picnic with loads of friends and family.
On the May Bank Holiday, we decided to host a small picnic as Brioche Pasquier had sent us some of their Pain Au Laits to taste.
Unfortunately the weather had other ideas (I mean how much rain in May?)
But we did not let it stop us, we had a garden Picnic instead. That way when the rain came we could run indoors and finish off.
I have to say I am a huge fan of Brioche Pasquier products ever since they taught me how to bake Brioche. They know what they are doing, as they have been doing it since 1936. The Pain Au Laits (Milk Brioche Rolls) are their most versatile product and I decided I wanted to try something different from just eating them with maybe some Jam or Chocolate Spread (which is still good).
I like a perfect mix of sweet and savoury meals on a picnic, the Pain Au Lait’s work perfectly for both.
Savoury – MeatBall Sliders
These are so simple and so much better than a typical sandwich. I simply cooked through some meatballs (you could buy pre-cooked ones as well), sliced each Pain Au Lait into 3 and popped a meatball inside. We also added some Emmental cheese and sweet cucumber which really finished them off. I held them in place with a toothpick and you could even dip them in a little sauce if you fancy.
These would be great for parties too.
Sweet – Brioche Sweet Churros
These have become a HUGE favourite since the first bite, they are so simple and tasty.
Just slice the pain au lait into 8, dip in beaten egg and fry till golden. Then I finished them off with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar (as I am cinnamon obsessed). For the picnic, I also melted down some leftover Easter Chocolate for dipping along with some Strawberry Coulis.
They taste just as good cold as they do hot and in fact, it was lucky we were at home as I had to cook up some more as everyone loved them.
The possibilities are endless, picnics don’t have to be simple sandwiches, nibbles and cakes and Brioche Pasquier products are ideal to fancy up your picnics.
Now to treat me to some more pretty Picnic ware for the Summer months, these two recipes shall be coming on picnics with our National Trust membership for sure.
What are your favourite picnic foods?
