Mexican is eaten at least 2/3 nights a week in our household, we are HUGE fans and for us there is no other brand to buy than Old El Paso.
Their dinner kits are easy to use with everything you need and very reasonably priced, we love to have our extended family over for Mexican nights so that we can cook many different dishes and thanks to Old El Paso asking me to tell you about their 2 new products we got to have one of those evenings last week.

First thing I love about Old El Paso is they have a guide on every packet as to how spicy the meal should be, my Mom & Sister only likes Mild so this made it easier in what I chose to cook, I went for a family favourite of Enchiladas and then I chose two of the new kits, the Extra Mild Rice Kit and the Pepper Casserole Mix.
Both were incredibly simple and allowed me masses of time to spend with my family, I always cut up the onions, peppers and chicken during the day when the kids nap and leave in the fridge ready (just a small tip for those with small kids). The Casserole mix is brilliant, you simply put all the raw ingredients in the pot (no pre cooking the chicken) and in the oven for just under 2 hours. No kidding that is it! They suggest serving with rice, I had boiled up some extra plain rice, but if you wanted to make it even easier you could buy a micro rice.
The Casserole was delicious, out of the 4 adults eating it we all wanted more (we finished the whole pot) and have bought the mix again since, it was a lovely creamy taste, very mild, in fact it reminded me a great deal more of authentic Mexican food than it’s Texmex counterpart. The chicken was lovely and tender, I actually used breast instead of the thighs suggested as personally I prefer it and it worked well, I am planning to also try this in the slow cooker on a day that I am at work as I think it will work well on a low cook for about 8 hours.

We also tried out the Extra Mild One Pan Rice Kit, as I said my family like it mild, this is a lime based dish, another easy to cook meal you brown the chicken add the pepper/onion and then the sauce, you lastly add the rice(included in the pack) and some sweetcorn and leave to cook for 10/15 minutes.
I was amazed as when it all went in it looked like there was no way the rice would cook down the fluid but it did, it works a little like a Risotto and the end result was a HUGE plate of rice, it states it would serve 4/6, in our greedy household it fed 5 and we had some leftover for lunch the next day.
Final results of the Casserole and One Pan Rice
The hubby and I actually found this a little too mild for our taste but our guests found it perfect, it was very fresh and the rice was beautifully cooked, the hubby and I are excited to try out the Chilli and Garlic one which has a little more kick and I love the fact that it is all in one pan, little mess after.
I think it would be lovely with some warm tortillas to scoop it up with, or a nice side salad, it is certainly enough for a meal and if you are a vegetarian you can just leave out the chicken and you would lose no flavour.
All in all the new meals got 10 out of 10 from us, the rest is coming with us on holiday to Centre Parcs along with some more for another Mexican feast.
Disclosure – We were sent the food from Old El Paso FOC for purpose of this review.
