Jungle Bedroom Makeover with Dulux

My kids are very lucky in that when they stay with their Gamma and Grandpa they have a bedroom of their own to sleep in. It has a nice big comfy double bed, books on the bedside and fairy lights to go to sleep too and although it had a few wall stickers of a train and butterflies it was a little on the dull side for kids.

So when Dulux asked if we wanted to try their Bedroom In a Box we jumped at the chance to do the kids bedroom at the Grandparents up. The room is shared by all 4 Grandkids, 2 girls and 2 boys, so it had to be a unisex design, we went with the Jungle Adventure theme as all the kids love animals, but in particular Addison who stays frequently is animal obsessed.

Inside the Box

    • A walltastic Jungle Adventure Mural
    • Dulux Matt 2.5L Willow Tree
    • Dulux Quick Dry Satinwood 750ml Jasmine White
    • Polycell Maximum Strength Wallpaper Adhesive
    • 3 Dulux Brushes

We set about deciding where to put the mural, there was only wall that would be suitable, behind the bed and although some would be hidden it would make a great feature behind the bed and a wow factor as you walked in.

The Dulux paint was great quality, very thick and as the walls were already a lighter green we were fortunate that it only took one good coat. It went on very well especially considering the walls are very old and uneven. *small point no roller comes in the box, I think this is a little of a shame as it is literally the only thing we had to buy to complete the room*

As you will see in the video my Husband (who did most of the work) was HUGELY impressed with the Dulux precision brushes and has said he will buy more when coming to decorate again. They cut in very well and not even a need to tape the ceiling.

Once the room was painted, which took only 40 minutes at best we left that to dry and started on the Jungle Adventure Mural.

It comes in 12 pieces, I actually thought that was genius as hanging a long strip of wallpaper can be quite difficult, especially if you are 5ft 2in like me, so these half panels made it light work.

The quality of the pieces is excellent, I was worried they maybe thin and tear but not at all, it was a case of simply brushing on the paste (provided in the box) leaving to go tacky for 1 minute and then putting up on the wall.

I will add at this point, although Dulux clearly stated to work left to right with the mural, my Husband chose to go the other way due to wall placement, please follow Dulux’s instructions as they have given you guides to overlap to create a seamless picture, this was a little harder for us to do going the wrong way – well done Dulux!

It did not take long at all to get mural up and I was so pleased with the end result, amazingly due to the photo quality of the mural it covered and hid so many of all the old bumps on my Mom’s walls, the picture quality is awesome, the animals actually feel like they are in the room with you.

Addison was so impressed, repeatedly stating “It’s Beautiful” what more could you want, my Mom bought some Jungle themed curtains and bedding too to tie in the room and over the next few weeks her and Addy shall be making some Jungle art to add to the walls.

Even my little niece Ivy loves the animals and had a good feel of them.

The Big Reveal - Dulux

A great note – The Mural can also be hung with double-sided tape instead of paste, which I think is so clever, as less mess and can be removed a lot easier, what a great tip from Dulux.

Disclosure –  We were provided with a Bedroom in a Box for the purposes of this review by Dulux and Tots100.
