Week One is done, it was actually ok, how about you ?
We are not really into full school routine yet as poor Deacon’s hours are all over the place but tomorrow is his first full day taking Packed Lunch.
There is no alternative with my fussy eaters, it is Packed Lunch * 4 most days in our house as I usually make and leave one for Ashley in the fridge.
We are not a ‘make the night before’ kind of family for a few reasons. Ash doesn’t like sandwiches that sit (and to be honest I agree), night times with meds and PEG feeding are actually manic here and lastly I really like to do it when I am fresh minded and can come up with new ideas.
My kids are fussy eaters, but more than that they are both what I call Picnic Eaters, so like lots of little things to eat.
So I thought I would show you 3 of the Packed Lunches that I made this week along with Pitch from Brioche Pasquier…
Addison’s School Lunch
My top tips for kids Packed Lunches, especially in Infants are..
* Take everything out of packaging, I remember once Addison’s Reception Teacher applauding me on that as packaging is hard for little fingers.
* Chop everything up to bite size, they eat quicker as they talk way too much during lunch time and then get hungry during afternoon lesson time.
* Make lunch fun, I think this always helps to keep them eating healthy, sandwiches in stars always go down well as do Brioche/Strawberry kebabs (I just use a straw), Pitch work perfectly for this.
* Save yourself pennies by buying sharing bags of crisps and putting the few you would like them to have in their lunch box. Saves money and means they do not have too many.
Addison’s Friday Treat Lunch
There is nothing wrong with picking one day a week for Packed Lunch at School to be a little more of a treat. I find it means Addison eats well during the week knowing that is coming on a Friday. I don’t let her know what is going in her lunch so it acts as a surprise.
Pitch Jam Sandwich is her favourite Friday lunch
I just slice open and spread some of her favourite strawberry jam, it replaces her usual sandwich. She still has healthy treats in the lunch box with her usual cucumber and grapes.
My other top tip would be use nice little lunch boxes, it saves on using too much plastic wrap and you can pick them up cheap in places like Home Bargains.
Mummy’s Work Lunch
Saving money is crucial in our home, with three growing children needing new clothes every other week, I find taking a packed lunch helps massively plus then I don’t over eat.
I like to have little treats too, so much like Addison’s Pitch Sandwich I have one too but instead of Jam I add fresh Strawberries, it is honestly so delicious.
I try to make sure most of my Packed Lunch (if not leftovers from Dinner the night before) tend to be simple things I can get ready within 5 minutes, some chopped up fruits and veg and my newest favourite Cheese and Crackers.
What do your kids like in their packed lunches? We are always looking for other ideas and tips.
